St Georges Hyde

Chester Cathedral and Shared Lunch

The 8th of June was a very special day for St Georges. Our curate Norma became an ordained priest at a fabulous service of Ordination at Chester Cathedral. Members of our congregation travelled by coach to support Norma and enjoy the afternoon in the city. The Cathedral was packed and it felt amazing to be part of such an important part of Norma’s journey with Christ. The service was attended by the Bishops of Chester, Stockport and Birkenhead and many other important clergy within the Diocese. It was lovely to sing along with hundreds or fellow Cheshire parish congregations, a full church choir and the Cathedral organ! I’m sure Norma must have been extremely nervous both prior and during the service, but she looked calm and happy to see us all in the crowd. It was particularly an honour to be part of the communion which followed the ordination, one because it was Norma’s first communion as an ordained priest and also because we received communion off our very own Vicar Joanna in Chester Cathedral! Overall I’m sure all who went would agree that it was a very good day and an excellent ordination service.

Following such a great day on the Saturday, Norma then had her first service and Holy Communion as a Priest on the Sunday. She did a very good job leading the service and the Communion was a perfect start to what I’m sure will be a very enjoyable and exciting ministry. The service finished with a lovely buffet and it was a lovely time of fellowship.

On behalf of all the members of St George’s Church, I would like to once again congratulate Norma on her ordination. In such a short period of time she has become a very important part of our church family and she is such a lovely person to talk to and worship with. May God continue to bless Norma in all that she does and I pray her time at St Georges will continue to bring many good memories.
