St Georges Hyde

About us…….Bell Ringers

Bell ringing is one of the oldest forms of Communication. It informs the Parish  of church services taking place, weddings, funerals, and in times of trouble was the first warning of invasion. This was even ready to be used in World War 2.

The first full peal of eight bells at St. George’s, was in 1853 with the aid of a public subscription. During the summer of 1920 the bells were taken down and a new steel framework was erected and the bells recast. The Tenor bell actually weighs 919kg.

Today we have just about enough ringers to keep the tradition of informing of worship and we hope to keep up the tradition of St. George’s bell ringing. If anyone would like to try this skill, you are welcome to come on our practice night of Monday at 7:30pm.
